Is Pokemon Scarlet/Violet that bad?

It’s been a few months since Pokémon Scarlet, and Pokémon Violet were released, and there has been a lot of negative press on these games for many reasons. I feel like everyone is criticizing these games a little too harshly.

The main issue that people have with these games is that they think that developer Game Freak released them unfinished due to their graphics issues. These issues include glitches, animations sometimes running slower, and memory leak issues. Such issues at a game’s launch aren’t unheard, though. Recall Bethesda’s Fallout 76 launch, where there were a ton of bugs. The developer actually tweeted that if players found any bugs, that they should let them know.

Then, there was CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077, a game that was delayed for what feels like a decade, and even then, the game was delivered poorly. What I’m trying to get at is that if the main flaw for which you to judge a game is because it runs/looks terrible, both of the games mentioned turned around quickly, and I feel like Nintendo/Game Freak is working out the quirks, and it should be solved soon. As of 1/15/2022, they’ve announced that they are releasing an update in February, though the exact date has not been announced.

Aside from the very few glitches I’ve encountered, the one annoyance with the game is the Pokémon constantly running up to you in the open world. I’m just walking around minding my own business, trying to evolve my Pawmo, and BAM, a random Pokémon runs up and starts a battle with me.

If you have been hesitant about picking this game up but are a die-hard Pokémon fan, you’re truly missing out. I honestly can’t wait for the DLC because I know it will be bonkers, having even more areas to explore and more Pokémon to catch.

If you’re a casual Pokémon fan or just looking for a new game, I suggest picking this up. This game is beautiful. The Pokemon themselves look good, and the character models are great. I enjoyed the Tera-raids, which add a Pokémon Go-style aspect to the game. I liked the open-world concept of the game, and it gave me some Zelda: Breath of the Wild vibes. This was my first time playing through a Pokémon game since Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver for the Gameboy Color. I really enjoyed my playthrough of Pokemon Violet to the point that I am considering playing Pokémon Scarlet now to see the story from that game’s point of view.

If you can overlook the glitches, this game is worth it. Also, to all of those saying that it’s not a hard game, no, duh,” it’s Rated “E,” which means “for everyone,” including for children. If you’re looking for a challenging game, then play the Dark Souls series.

  1. Scarlet and Violet should of never been released in that condition. I disagree , the bugs and glitches were inexcusable for a game we had to wait 7 years for .
